Sixty Ink

Brand Identity for a contemporary tattoo studio

Sixty Ink is a London-based tattoo studio operating at the intersection of body art, music culture, and contemporary lifestyle. The project focused on redefining its visual identity to better reflect its positioning within a highly competitive and trend-driven urban landscape.

Tattoo studios often rely on overused visual tropes — gothic typography, illustrative logos, and dark aesthetics — making differentiation difficult.

Sixty Ink needed an identity that could:

  • Stand out in a saturated market
  • Appeal to a culturally aware, design-sensitive audience
  • Reflect tattooing not just as a service, but as a form of personal transformation and self-expression

At its core, tattooing is an act of permanence and transformation — a deliberate decision to mark a moment, identity, or evolution.

Rather than focusing on the aesthetic of tattoo culture, the project shifts the narrative toward its meaning.

The identity is built around the idea of transformation, expressed through the symbol of the X.

The X acts as:

  • A mark of change
  • A crossing point between past and future
  • A universal, minimal gesture that echoes the act of marking the skin

This abstraction allows the brand to move away from stereotypical tattoo visuals and into a more contemporary and scalable visual language.

Logo
A custom logotype paired with the X symbol creates a flexible identity that works across different scales and contexts.

Typography
Clean, modern sans-serif type reinforces clarity and positions the brand within a more design-conscious space, distancing it from traditional tattoo aesthetics.

Color Palette
A restrained palette enhances contrast and legibility while maintaining a bold and confident presence.

Graphic Language
The X becomes a modular element that can be extended into patterns, compositions, and spatial applications, enabling a cohesive and recognizable system.

The identity is designed to perform across both physical and digital touchpoints:

  • Studio signage and environmental graphics
  • Social media communication
  • Printed materials and merchandise
  • Branded assets supporting events and collaborations

Each application reinforces the core idea of transformation while maintaining visual consistency.

The result is a flexible and contemporary identity that:

  • Positions Sixty Ink beyond traditional tattoo studios
  • Appeals to a new generation of clients
  • Creates a strong, recognizable visual system rooted in concept rather than decoration
